The Easyrig Boom Rig | How Does It Really Preform?

Jun 12,2024 | Pinknoisesystems

The Easyrig fits any Boompole!
We tested several boom poles, Boom-Buddy, Ambient and K-Tek to name just a few. They all worked fine but we think for the best performance you need a heatshrink or grip around your boom pole to stop any unwanted noise.

Weight Range
We tested as many 6m boom poles as we could to test how much weight the Boomrig could hold. We used a DPA 2017 microphone with the Bubblebee Windkiller, so we didn't have too much weight at the end of the pole but as we extended to 6m so there was enough weight to test the Boomrig. After we adjusted the weight, by turning the knob on the back, it worked great. Your arms are allowed to focus on directing the boom pole without the worry of your arms giving out.

Packaging & Build
The Boomrig arrived with a well built carry case, that's big enough to become a backpack as well. The Boomrig is a lightweight vest with a hydraulic piston on the back that's covered with a hard plastic case. It feels durable and well built with the straps for the vest being highly adjustable.

Boom Arm Angles
The boom arm takes a little bit of adjustment but once you start using the Boomrig for 10/20 minutes it starts feeling more natural to use. The high-angle and low-angle adjustment of the Boomrig adds extra versatility making the feel more agile.

Extra Features
The Boomrig also has hooks for mixers which, as the name suggests, allow you to hang your mixer on the vest. This obviously adds more weight but because of the vest distribution the hips take most of the weight. There is also a side hook that allows the boom pole to be in a rested position, allowing for a more relaxed booming position so you can focus more on the mix.

Overall
We were impressed with the Boomrig. The build is solid and it does the perfect job of assisting the boom operator whilst still keeping the flexibility you need for indoor/outdoor shooting. We do think it takes some adjustment and learning to best utilise the Boomrig which is why we're offering time slots to demo the Boomrig.
